I have noticed this again and again in my life. And when it comes to me personally, we are talking about a man who desires with all his heart to live a passionate, courageous, powerful life with Jesus - fully engaged and surrendered to His will and purpose. I've noticed the tendency to get tired.
When I say tired I don't only mean physically tired, but emotionally tired, and spiritually tired. And I think I've figured out why: whenever I allow anything, and I mean ANYTHING to get in the way of my relationship with Jesus, and if I allow that thing to grow in importance in my life, I begin to slide back slowly and the flame of God's presence in my heart gets smaller. And eventually I get tired.
Then when I focus in on Jesus again... when I worship and get in the Word and push into seeking Him with all my heart, the flame grows again... it's actually THAT simple.
Jesus said it in Mark 13:32-37
32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake.35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
Stay awake... 3 times! The Lord challenges his disciples... check it... THE ONES WHO ALREADY GAVE UP EVERYTHING TO FOLLOW HIM! He tells them not once, not twice, but 3 times... to... STAY AWAKE!
How much more some of us who are already lukewarm. Friend lukewarm means 'sleeping' spiritually.
So again, the issue for me is always the worship of other things... when I allow a vice in my life I get weaker, because I'm worshiping at the altar of my bondage. It's not complicated to break free though... just surrender again to God.
That's why I blog - that's why I preach - to try to get a word in between you and your vice and convince you by the grace of God to lay down the thing that sapping you of your very life - your very time - the most precious commodity you have.
The last word goes to the Apostle Paul addressing the church from Romans 13:11-14:
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
